Board of Directors Meeting
Gelhaus' Ranch, Wilsall, MT
January 27, 2007

President Bill Crain called the meeting to order at 12:15 PMPresent:  Jay Dee Anderson, Billi Heigh, Rich Roskam, Jim Gelhaus and Sharon Gelhaus.  Absent:  Darra Norgaard, Jarvis Anderson, Kay Johnston, Don Jordan and Mike Allison

Treasurer’s Report: Jim reported the balance of the funds.  A donation has been received from Cole Red Horse in memory of Shesa Lil Smartie.

Stallion Stakes:  Billi reported the Stallion Stakes account balance.

Awards Report:  Jay Dee reported that the 2006 end of year awards total $5,092.00.  This compares to $3,958.56 which was spent on 2005 awards. There was discussion on how MRHA might be able to award a second saddle in addition to the Rookie saddle in 2007.

Special Addition to the Agenda:  Don Jordan was unable to attend the meeting, but wanted to convey the following on behalf of some of the membership in the Flathead Valley( Northern Rockies Reining Horse Association):  1) MRHA needs to have a Mission Statement.  It was noted that a proposed Mission Statement has already been drafted and is on the ballot which was sent in the recent mailing to all MRHA members.  2)  They would like to see shows spread throughout the state.  A suggestion for people to think about is to have two in the western part of the state, two in the eastern part of the state and then a championship show that alternates locations.  It was noted by the board that in 2006 three circuit shows were held in the eastern part of the state and two in the west, and that in 2007 three shows are scheduled in the western part of the state and two in the eastern part.  3) They would like to see better year-end-awards.  The board has been working toward this goal for the past year.  For 2006, $5,000 was allotted for year-end awards, which is up from $3,500 in 2005.  The funds allocated for year-end awards are dependent on how much money the MRHA is able to raise and other financial obligations, such as supporting shows for everyone whether they win a year-end award or not.

Show Applications and Show Schedule:

The following two show applications had been received and were approved as part of the MRHA year-end and Affiliate qualifying circuits; the Northern Rockies Summer Slide (Since re-named the Hungry Horse Summer Slide to eliminate confusion with the new western MT affiliate)– June 22 & 23, 2007, and  Reining in the Root - April 28 & 29, 2007.

A motion was passed to give $500 to the new Reining in the Root show to be held on April 28 & 29th, 2007 at the Sapphire Arena in Corvallis, MT.

YRHA Slide II

A letter had been received from YRHA’s president, Elise Donohue, inviting the MRHA to use YRHA’s shows in 2007.  A motion was passed to make the Yellowstone Slide II, July 6, 7 & 8, 2007, an MRHA affiliate qualifying show.

There was discussion on the possibility of holding an MRHA show at the Metra in Billings, MT.  Carl Larson is working with the Metra’s new management on this.  Jay Dee and Jim agreed to arrange with Carl to meet with Metra’s management and discuss the details of this possibility, including the preparation of the ground.
